A new era in healthcare for West Cumbria

The West Cumberland Hospital was the first new NHS hospital to be built, opening in 1964. The facilities are now well over 40 years old and are no longer suitable for modern healthcare.

Hospital EntranceNorth Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust has announced plans for a major redevelopment of the hospital, which occupies an 11-hectare site on the outskirts of Whitehaven at Hensingham.

The project will see the biggest single investment in healthcare for West Cumbria in over half a century. It presents an immensely exciting opportunity to bring hospital care into the 21st century and will generate a significant boost to the local economy, contributing to the regeneration of the region.
